Transitions

  • Beginning of the period announcements: Every day after the bell has rung, when Ms.Bebar uses her attention grabbers, it is time to quiet down.

  • Ms.Bebar will take the time to explain the activities for the day as well as materials needed.

  • Ms.Bebar will make instructions clear and available at all times to ensure easy transitions between activities.

  • Ms.Bebar will plan each lesson plan accordingly to make sure that activities and transitions are planned out.

Time

  • Activities will be set up in 10 minute increments to allow for breaks between activities

  • To help maintain the time schedule, a timer will be set.

    • If timer is not for whole class activities, small groups would be responsible for timers

  • A class calendar will be posted on the class website that is up to date for assignment dates and details.

  • There will be an agenda for every day assignments.

Organization

  • Students will be given 3-4 minutes before the bell to clean up.

    • Loose pieces of paper should be set in the recycling bin

    • all other garbage in the garbage can

    • Chairs pushed in and tables wiped down

  • Any extra materials being used for the day will be kept in the storage closet. Ms.Bebar will give directions when putting these materials away.

  • Once tables are "ready to go" they will let Ms.Bebar know, and Ms.Bebar will check them out.

Storing Materials

  • Each student will have their own class folder, which will be stored at the back of the room in class order.

    • This folder is for all completed and uncompleted assignments.

  • Ms.Bebar has a hanging organizer that will include all materials needed for the week and the week prior. If you miss a day of school, this is where you would find materials for that day.

  • The library in the back corner of the classroom will have a clipboard attached to the side. This is where the class librarian will keep track of the books checked out.

Space

  • The reading corner is a space where students can come to read during class time. This space is SILENT to allow students to unwind and relax by the library

  • The three moveable tables are for small group and whole group work space. They are able to move about the room as we need it to, but the wheels need to lock when we have settled into our group work for the day

  • All spaces need to be cleaned up and put back together the way they are set up in the seating chart after each class period.

Rationale:

One thing that I have learned throughout my junior block clinicals is that the transition periods between activities and in/out of the classrooms is one of the hardest things to master. Especially if you are constantly moving schools and districts when you don’t stay long enough to get to know the students and the school dynamics. Transition periods are essential to the productivity of the lesson plans. With, my classroom management plan is to make instructions clear and available to all students in different ways so there is no confusion about what is being asked of the. I will take time to explain the activities and materials needed before jumping into it. And I will use attention grabbers to quiet the class down so we can get started right away. Timers have been a hit with both students and teachers because it allows the students to keep focused and it also allows teachers to remain on track for the lesson. Having a set routine every day will help the students form habits that will help them in their future careers. Taking time to organize each day will build the foundations of being tidy and cleaning up after yourself. It promotes respect for the classroom and respect for the teachers’ belongings. Storing the materials will help students keep their things together, especially if we have a lot of students that lose things easily. The space in the room is set up so that there is a place for everyone to comfortably learn. Like I said before, the reading corner is a place for students to relax, the moveable tables allow for small, whole class, and individual work, and the libraries are set up so that students have access to them both in and leaving the room. These are all small things that help our students grow in ways beyond the classroom.
