Seating Chart

Rationale:

The seating chart is created for the benefit of the students. First, I created a space where students can go to relax, unwind, and read a book. This is located towards the back of the class, away from any desks to allow students to read in a quiet section of the room. It is also located closest to the bigger class library, so students can come find a book easily and relax. Next, the three moveable tables are placed in the center of the room so there is room to move groups around if there is small group work happening. There is also room for the tables to be combined if whole class discussions are taking place. The filing cabinets are placed by my desk so there is no reason for students to be in the back corner of the classroom. Finally, I placed my desk in the back of the room because teaching from the back of the class keeps students on track and focused when they think you’re constantly looking at them. The storage closet is placed away from any materials that students can access and completely out of the way of the movement of the room.  Finally, I placed a smaller class library at the front of the class, next to the door with the hope that when students line up at the door to leave for the day, they can pick up a book when they are waiting.
