Student Leader of the week

  • This student will correlate to the number given at the beginning of the year. It is alphabetically organized (First person with the last name A= #1)

  • This student is responsible for alerting an adult if I am not present for extended period of time ( see the safety, health, and environment page for more detail)

  • This student will be my go-to student if I need assistance.

Board Eraser of the day

  • This student will be chosen at the beginning of each day. They will be responsible for erasing the board whenever necessary, but only when Ms.Bebar tells them to erase.

Class Librarian of the week.

  • The class librarian is chosen through birthday order (oldest to youngest) and will be responsible for maintaining our library for one week.

  • If a student wishes to check out one of Ms.Bebar's materials, the class librarian will access the check out log to write it down

  • They will check off any returning books for Ms.Bebar.

  • They will help keep the bookshelves neat and organized for that week they are "on duty"

Runner

  • The runner is responsible for running all materials to the office as needed.

  • This is chosen on a daily basis when needed

Small Group Work

  • Presenter: As a group, you will elect a presenter for every small group activity. This person will present their materials to the rest of the class when the time comes.

  • Resource Manager: This person is to make sure that your group has all of the materials needed to complete the activity. If you need materials, this is the student to ask Ms.Bebar for them.

  • Time Keeper: This person is not only responsible for watching the time, but making sure the group is staying on task and focused so they may use their time wisely. If concerns arise, this person is to address Ms.Bebar about the situation.

  • Note Taker: This person is our record keeper of any materials that need to be filled out.

**Please note, if there are not 4+ people in the group, all of the jobs need to be split amongst the group members. For example, if there are only two of you, one of you takes two job and the other takes the other two. Each role is to be used for every group activity.

Rationale:

There are 4 roles to be held by students throughout the school year. All of these roles will change on a week-to-week basis, so each student is given an opportunity to participate. It is also chosen through a number or birthday system, so there is no confusion as to who is responsible for the duties that week. The student leader of the week is the student responsible for reporting the absence of an adult within the classroom (this is outlined in the safety, health, and environment page). This student is also the go-to if there is assistance needed in the classroom. The students know who to turn to when the student leader is needed, which keeps the class flowing and working throughout the school day. The board erase is chosen at the beginning of each day as an attendance question. This helps add one tiny piece of work for myself as I move throughout the lesson.  The class librarian will oversee upholding the books that are coming in and leaving the classroom. And finally, the runner is responsible for running materials to and from the office when needed. It is chosen daily just as the board eraser, helping myself know which students are out of the classroom, when they are out of the classroom. Holding these roles in the classroom will put into place responsibilities that the students are required to uphold. This is also equally distributing those responsibilities to model how the work force should function. Small group work is also given responsibilities to ensure that each student is using their time wisely. The presenter is one of the hardest decisions to make when working in small groups, especially if it is not decided ahead of presenting the material. The resource manager, timekeeper, and note taker are all essential roles that keep activities moving along without bumps in the road. Each of these will promote positive socialization and work skills that students will need later in life.
